MODELS

Our solution to the problems of evaluating and realising a squeeze ending is described in the following four volumes. Here, the squeeze technique is treated with a different approach than in the other books available on the subject, because in our case we work on the structures of squeeze endings, not just on squeeze endings. We identify, describe and exemplify models of reoccurring squeeze structures that can be recognized in the infinitely variable card combinations ending with a squeeze. The purpose of our work is didactic. We believe that squeeze models are objects that can be understood and studied more effectively than the mere descriptions of squeeze realizations. The models presented – over 100 in total, plus the same number of variants and other figures worthy of study – are divided into four parts which are the body of the four volumes.

EXERCISES

In this section we present the three volumes of Squeeze in gara (Squeezes in competition). Overall, they describe 230 hands with squeeze endings from the major international competitions of 2022. Consistently with the didactic purpose of our four-volume work on squeeze theory, these hands are presented as exercises. We introduce the first moves and the question of what kind of ending is possible. We then show the solution of the question and the ending, also in terms of the model of squeeze that was applied. In the three volumes, at the end of each competition's hands/exercises, we present a quantitative and percentage overview of the occurrences by squeeze family or contract level. We then offer a summary of these statistics, also in graphic form, at the end of the last volume.

ABOUT

The bridgistic "career" of the author of the book was very short and concentrated in the year 1980 and in the first half of '81.
These old images extracted from Bridge d’Italia (the Italian Bridge Federation magazine) of May 1980 attest his best result.

TAXONOMY

You can download the diagram here. This is the result of the analysis carried out in the four volumes about the Models. This diagram is the overall representation of the models described. It highlights relationships and structural dependencies of the models according to a taxonomic logic. On the left, a column shows the squeeze families; alongside these, the graphic representations of the models are detailed, plus any lines of interrelation. This diagram does not include model variants and other minor or marginal graphic illustrations described in the book. The downloadable image is high-resolution, so the diagram can also be printed in larger formats.
